why do the cuts & shapes/text keep cutting please?

Hi all,

I have a real odd ball, when I export a file out of Corel Draw 10 as an HPGL file. When I send to my cutter it cuts all out lines twice. I have made sure there is no fill and a hairline outline and disabled all the pen colours.
Anybody have an Idea?
Also does anybody on the board cut directly from Corel, if so how do you set up cutter properties and page properties. E.G is the page size the size of the vinyl loaded, portrait or landscape and does print preview give you a good idea what is to be cut.
Also is there anybody else out there using Signpal, I'm thinking of changing as the version I use os only aprentice and limits me to straight text, no tracing, welding etc.

Sorry for all the spelling ( oh i swore ).....

Tim...

Firstly Tim,

Theres nothing wrong with a good set of ( oh i swore )!!!
You should be able to cut directly from corel without any problems mate, we always used to do this with our color camm pc-50.

Setup your graphic as usual, remove any fill colours and set the line properties to black and hairline, see pic:

Image
Select file and print and choose file-print, and click on properties:

click on the size tab and choose vinyl sizes etc, next click on cutting. Choose by colour and select the basic black.

And away you go

As for the double cutting thing, import the hpgl file, you just exported, and make sure there isn't two sets of shapes. Also make sure that your plotter isn't set to cut two copies, without x/y offsets.

What plotter are you using by the way??

Timmy - why not give Signgo a go (if you haven't already - have a look at the Signgo topic in software section) Sorry to harp on about it but it's worth a free trial go - I used to use Corel but have found this much more focused on vinyl cutting and its affordable - no I'm not on commission honest!
p.s. I'm with you on putting back into the site, my own knowledge is very dim compared to some of the pros on this brill. site. At least you've had the bottle to submit a design - I've not done a job yet I consider worthy enough but hopefully in time I will.

Cutting twice

I have had this odd times, and I am sure that its beacuse you are giving it an outline, try just using the fill. I design in corel draw and cut from a different prgram at a different location.
Basically I design in cd9 and then save it as a HPGL file but just with fill and no outlines and then transfer it to another machine and load the HPGL file in and cuts fine. Brian :)

Hello. Tim,

I had a similar problem several years ago, when I first got into the computer/plotter/corel5 scene.

At the time I was using Corel5 and Signlab "shotcut"-- a bridge program that allowed the plotter to cut from Corel. The plotter was, and still is, an Ioline Classic 24, and it would not accept .cdr files. The newer Iolines will. Since I didn't know better, I was using "copy/paste" to get the cut file to the plotter. It worked but a lot of strange things happened to the file on the way. Repeated cuts, and extra horizontal cuts midway up on any of the closed letters. i.e. "p" "d" "o" and so on. It turned out that copy/paste was not the proper method to export. Had I exported to shortcut as a .cmf (corel metal file) extension, then the plotter would have cut properly.

Also, I think the others are probably correct in thinking that there is a hidden outline in your file(s) somewhere.

Outline

Hi Bill,

I think it is to do with having a black outline with a different colour fill, I haven't had time to prove this yet but I'm almost sure thats whats going on (-) .

Hi Tim, I've had this before with Coreldraw. I was using the shape tools (intersect/weld/trim) and leaving originals. I still do it from time to time. I always check for duplicates before I go to the plotter.Try making sure the check boxes are cleared. If it ain't that , well ... I dunno. Yer on yer own wi' that yin Image

Yes I have been caught out with that one allready, I think my problem is something to do with a fill and outline.
Anyway I have registered Gigngo now and use it for doing all my stuff now.

Cheers
