Applying vinyl lettering to stone, advice please?

Hi Guy's,

I've been asked to apply matt black vinyl lettering to this building. Can anyone suggest a decent vinyl that will adhere to this type of surface please?

Re: Applying vinyl lettering to stone

Interesting question. I’ve done floor graphics “Shoe shapes” stickers in the past and stuck them to pavement slabs outside my shop. They lasted for few months before council cleaners removed them. So my guess will be brick wall vinyl or floor vinyl. But not sure of durability.

If you've a printer and cutter a material called roughmark should do that nicely. It's designed to stick to some of the worst surfaces imaginable. Just done 5 walls made from big croncete blocks!

Iain, what is the 3m tape called? Would it be strong enough to hold letters long term?

I’ll have to hunt for the product number, but it’s the grey VHB with a paint on activator- it will be more that sufficient, we stuck up a truck load of dibond panels in the dug outs at Reading FC and also in the stand

Hi James, this is the stuff we use, just check on their website to make sure the spec is correct for you

if you are going the Black Fomex flat cut letters route, another good foam stick tape is Oracal's Orabond® 1812TM Double-Sided Tape.

There are lots of high-grab tapes on the market these days but it's best checking the spec to see how they perform against certain surfaces "long term". Same applies with the masonry vinyls / wall wraps etc.
