Signlab, Flexisign or Omega Composer?

Hi everyone,

I'm interested to find out how Flexisign and Signlab compares to Omega Composer? What are you thoughts and experiences with these software packages?

Cheers

I started out on Gerber software 24 years ago... i then looked into flexi, but opted for Signlab instead. ive never looked back... purchased a further 4 signlab packages since.

all software has come on so far from back then... i still use signlab to this day, i use photoshop and dedicated RIP for printing side of things.

Hi Chris,

No unfortunately not so I need to make a choice which way to go with the software. I downloaded the Signlab trial version and it didn't look as easy to use as my friends Omega software, but everyone seems to rate Signlab and I don't see much mentioned about Composer! I'm new to this so whatever software I choose I'm going to be learning from scratch.. the only bonus from choosing composer is that my friend already uses it on a daily basis and can help me out.

I've tried to find used copies of software packages but they are rare as rocking horse droppings! What software do you use?

Cheers

Have you tried the trial version of Flexi as well? There is also other software that people use, vinylmaster also has a trial download & a lot of people seem to use corel & illustrator as well.

I use composer too and love it. Not far from you and run the same machine. Ask on here for software, I have an old copy but want to keep as a back up.

Martin,

I've not tried the Flexi download but i'll have a look at it. Will Coral and Illustrator output direct to a cutter?

Chris,

Do you have the details of a Gerber engineer? My cutter cuts straight lines very well but in circles like the letter O and the number 8 for example the lines seem bumpy? it's not shocking but is noticeable if you look properly. Have you come across this before?

I'm sure I asked in the software section if any one had any old copies of software they'd like to sell but I think it got deleted?

Cheers

there are plug ins I believe that allow you to cut direct from Corel and Illy. Never used them so not sure.

Am sure Stafford will read this later and can advise on engineer.

Gerber Omega here. I've been a Gerber guy from the start. A really stable workhorse.

Same as Chris, I believe there are plug ins but never used them so can't comment. Try doing a search on the forum as has been talked about in the past.
I use vinylmaster or VMX as it is known now. Free download available if you want to try it but it really will be down to personal choice.

Haven't tried the others so don't know how they compare, but I have found no cult with FlexiSign Pro. We have used it since we started and have not found anything we needed to do that it can't do! We run 8.1

If you do opt for flexisign Robert then buy the version you need to get you started, if your just running a plotter then 3 grand is a lot of money to spend on software that will do more than you need. Same goes for signlab I beleive, comes in modules so you can start of small & build up.

Thanks everyone.

Its seems a pretty even split to me. I'll take a look at all of them. If they offer some training to go with the software that'll be a big bonus!

Cheers

Robert, Signlab all the way for me. Problem with your curve cutting is probably
the blade holder. I use Roland machines & when I had the same issue that's
what it was.

Rob, It was about 10 years ago, I think about 60 euro, simple change over on
the Roland, I don't know about your machine. Should be cheaper in UK, I'm in
Ireland so everything is more expensive.

I very well might do mate! Trying to get the signlab demo to output to the cutter and it's not going according to plan. I've just manually selected the port in Signlab and we'll see what happens now! Where are you based?

Crikey, I'm only down the road from Harlow myself - I'm in Little Chesterford near Saffron Walden. I run both Signlab and Corel Draw and cut to Summa and Graphtec machines from both packages.

Good to know there's some experienced sign guys nearby. I can see this industry has a huge learning curve! On a side note I've now got signlab outputting to the cutter! :D

Chris, I use Cutting Master which I think is a cut down Flexi cutting front end. It does have some good features but it does seem a little slow so I normally cut and paste from Corel into Signlab which is both fast and more flexible than Cutting Master.
