why is there inconsistent Kerning within signlab6?

I'm having major problems with the standard kerning on signlab. It seems that I have to check each individual job, word, letter to ensure that the kerning is acceptable. Sometimes the individual letters are too close to each other, sometimes the letters are a mile apart - this could all be within the same document and same font. I have used the standard kerning tool but find it a bit clunky.

Are their any options available to me?

Go back to Siglab 5 - I can't stand "e6" personally - there are more bugs in it than in my back garden (I can't tell you how many that is though as they keep running around when I try to count them). The tutorial CD is a good laugh........until you get the bill.
I think to be fair to e6 - the kerning in Signlab has always been slightly suspect (I have been using it since ver. 3.1), I have spent a lot of time over the years nudging letters one way or the other until it looks right. You can create your own fonts with kening pairs etc - but who has the time or inclination to do it??

I was going to suggest that you use the 4.95 text layout in Signlab but as I don't have E 6 Im not sure if its still possible. I have 5.6 and can still use 4.95 text layout using auto kern in the options and I never have problems with it.

This is a subject I was going to bring up as I am very particular about kerning of letters. I know some people use Corel alot, but the kerning is all over the place, starts wider than it finishes.

I find myself looking at signs and lorrries and I ask myself that very question if the kerning is out, "is that done in Corel?"

This was particulary poignant yesterday when I arrived at one my customers, who I have been supplying vehicle graphics for about 7 years.
My customer has always been very happy with our work and never complained on price or quality but there was one of their small curtain side lorries with graphics on I did not do

So when I asked the question, I was told that the lorry company threw the lot in inc graphics to the price (:) they digi printed straight to curtain.
I had no chance. It seems the lorry co. is trying this with all their customers to undercut us signmakers.
The logo was not quite right and the letters were different but my long term customer did not really notice.  (hot) he just went with price and did not even consider us?????

A bit of a rant there but this thraed saves me starting another one.

Anyway try the 4.95 text layout box always worked for me.

4.95 text layout is not available in e6 as it is in ver 5xx so unfortunately that isn't the solution. I think there is a natural kerning button on e6 but I don't know how useful it is.

I find myself flitting from 4.95 to V5 and back again because they have their own peculiar characteristics that proves to be very useful.

Wonder why it was dropped in E6?

Inconsistent Kerning within signlab6

As far as I am aware, the kerning tools in Signlab have not changed since 4.95. If the font kerning is not what you want the best option is the Auto-Kern (ab a b button) which will kern the letter pairs that are selected, you can change the settings for this by right clicking the button. You can then also change the kerning value to the right of the button with 100% being the default value. If you still don't get what you want you can onscreen kern by CTRL +double click on the text. Hope this helps.
