Fitting Built up letters to steel cladding

Can someone describe to me how built up lettering like this would have been attached to the building. There are no visible fixings and some of the letters are huge (8ft?)

They are hanging on that slot towards the top of the letters Phill or they are suspended on sky hooks :lol1: :lol1:

My guess would be some sort of rod system on the backs of the letters, you sure that's not a fixing on the U towards the bottom ??

At a guess poss mechanical fixing at the top like fitting a tray (not sure if you have been up to look?) and epoxy fix to angle brackets elsewhere.

You can get a 2 part epoxy that bonds greater than a weld and capable of going through a powder coat over.

Only other suggestion is they went up when the building was made and studs go through to the inside.

put some angel up and then fix the letter over that they will be hollow or something along those lines.

Fix with either small angle brackets to cladding or more likely a back tray with tabs on it.

I THINK I can make out screws at locations I've marked.

|Expect a couple top & bottom. Screws take no loads as the tabs hold it up...screws just stop it from sliding off.

Just noticed....Phil posted nearly 18 months ago.....

I have brightened up and added lots of contrast and its showing up the screw fixings around the edges of the letter. "see red arrows"

there's various ways of fixing built-up letters depending on what has to be achieved. These are some of the ones I have used over the years. I would imagine there are others...

* Threaded rod locator system
* Brass locators fixed to bridges on rear
* Aluminium Angle
* Biscuit tin lid type fixing

these letters are 8ft high and will be heavy, i have NEVER fitted letters of this size so there may well be a common method of fixing letters at this size and weight. but due too the limited amount of visible fixings i would "guess" they could be "mounted" onto rear fixed letters. i.e. like a biscuit tin lid i would imagine this the best option. but also the more expensive.
alternatively, they could be fixed using aluminium angle.
