to put in 440 carts does the firmware have to be told ?.

yes it just relies on the tag lever on the cartridge to register empty, It's a big problem though that neither the machine or the software registers that you have 440ml cartridges so you can't use the ink status in colourip or the ink monitor on the machine, they both show your empty when the inks are 1/2 full as these work on an internal head firing count, but the machine keeps on printing until the cartridge has run out.

We have been using the 440ml's for a while now and have kept nagging Roland to sort the ink monitoring out, but so far we just keep getting told it hasn't been looked at yet and probably won't happen.....

The 440mls are double the length. I bought our new carts as 440ml and they are poking me in the back of the head as I type.

Hi Guys,

Yep they rely on the tags , the new VP versions have the software that recognises the different types of cartridge the old SPs dont. I am not expecting them to do a restrospective upgrade. It is possible the cartridge is faulty and the tag isnt flicking out when it gets low , you shouldnt be in the position of printing with an empty cartridge without knowing its low.

Regards
