Help! How can I get rid of

the white surrounding a picture, so that I only have the image left?

The image needs to go on a coloured background, with no white edges.

Any advice much appreciated.

Lorraine,

Is the image a Jpeg? and what software are you using? If you're using photoshop, you should be able to set the background to transparent. I'm not 100% on how, but I'll have a look later when I get back. I think if you "select all" and "copy" then do "File - New" there's an option for transparent background. Again, I'm not 100% on if that'll work as you want it to, you might have to select the part of the image you want and then copy it to the new image.

Sorry to be vague! Having a bad memory day!

Hi Adam, thanks for the quick reply.

I have Signlab, Corel 12 and Photoshop, have tried all of them but Photoshop is really b*ggering around, keep getting a 'no disk in the drive' message which won't go away, and prevents work. Don't know why, as it never used to happen. I really need to remove & re-load I guess, but don't have the time.

if its a simple shape use the node tools in coral to remove unwanted areas of the pic. in photoshop its a lot more involved.

If its just a white border use the crop tool in Corel Draw

Ok, I'll have to put in another forum...

I now have uploaded it to the file swapping forum, thanks all.

I have been trying your advice too, Corel won't give me the crop option....

Loraine in signlab, its dead easy. several ways and it depends which modulesyou have in your version.
Method one, using node edit draw round the pic make the resulting shape a colour then select the jpg and the shape and use the clipping tool, job done.
If you have colou phototrace, you can contour cut (if the image has a good edge ) then just make the cut path a shape (make path) then clip as above.
Hope this is clear
