Thermoformable Ink

Been away, sorry didn't get back to you on the most generous business proposal of commuting between the UK and South Florida! Screen printing scares me. Mostly because we would have to print on to some very large sheets 4' X 8', then cut out the pieces with the laser, and form them. I do have some e...

Car windows

Over here in the US they don't let use use acrylic on this type of vehicle - we have to use polycarbonate for it's impact resistance. The problem is that polycarbonate scratches easier and is hydroscopic (abosrbs humidity from the air) and goes milky. So we have to hardcoat it. Major $$$

Is there a thermoformable screen printing ink?

Is there a thermoformable screen printing ink? I just saw a screen print on acrylic where it was screened on flat - then the acrylic was thermoformed into a curve! I wonder if these are special inks or they all will follow the substrate when heated. The acrylic is formed at around 320F. perhaps it i...

Thanks for the welcome! We're a small company (18 employees) in Lantana, Fl just south of West Palm Beach and when we're not fishing we make most of the windows for the US Army's choppers (Apache, Chinook, Blackhawk, Huey, Jolly Green Giant, etc - we also make C-130, and a couple of trainer / fighte...

Edge polishing

We have a 240watt Eurolaser with a 2m x 1.5m bed. It's actually a Zund table so it's pretty precise. It's getting a little long in the tooth 'cause we've had it six years already and am fixin' to plunk down 175K for another one just as soon as the dollar=Euro. 90% of what we cut the edge doesn't mat...

Edge polishing of acrylics

We need to edge polish cast acrylics and wonder if there is anything else out there. So far (from posts here) we can glean that there is: Flame polishing: Does a decent job but I wonder if it doesn't craze under UV even if you do anneal the piece. Diamond abrasive polishing: Nice, but it only does s...

Hey thanks for the welcome! I found the site while looking for a better way to polish cast acrylic edges using a Google search. I read a couple of interesting posts on flame polishing and diamond abrasive polishing. The state of the art on both seems to be in the UK. however diamond polishing has th...

Such a useful board! We basically bend acrylics to make combat helicopter windows and are in the process of manufacturing boat windshields. We have a lot in common with the sign industry and in the coming weeks we will be developing methods to edge polish as well as screen printing on acrylics that ...
