Jon There is some Mac software out there that will drive a range of cutters, some is OS9 only and some OSX. Have a look at http://www.magisign.com and also Freesign (can't recall the web address but you'll find it and other references to sign software at http://www.versiontracker.com) The main probl...

Stuart What machine are you printing on? Some solvent inkjets may be able to print to thin PVC (something like 220mic Staufen). I've tried a JV3 with no luck, but suspect the ColourPainter may be better - just haven't had time to try it! :-? Alternatively how about a thick paper? Robert Horne do 200...

We are usually a bit cautious with quotes for these and put on them that it's the clients responsibility to have the lamp post structure checked to ensure it will take the additional wind loading -- just in case!!

We get ours from Paragon Imaging Materials (part of Robert Horne Group), haven't bought the gloss though, only matt. I think an 8x4ft sheet is about £20 (ish) but can't be certain - failing memory I'm afraid!

Ian Shame, they are bargins!!! Stop-light type materials are aluminium backed polyester with an ink-jet receptive coating on the front, the idea is they will roll-up but will still sit flat when in use and, as it is opaque, you won't see a shadow of the pole through the banner. They are available in...

One of the problems we had with using pvc banner materials was the tracking issues Rodney describes - this doesn't seem to happen with the stop-light types. I've just found (this morning) a heavy weight textile for solvent printers that is being marketed as being intended for roll-ups. It comes from...

PVC banner material works with some roll-up systems but not all owing to it's thickness. We have found that the thinner 'stop-light' type materials work best in these systems

Ian For the systems try Ultima 01536 511515 or Expolite (http://www.expolite.com). There are some materials for solvent based machines coming out but we've not found a really good one yet and still print them on our Novajets. Roll-ups need a matched substrate and laminate otherwise they are prone to...

will a PNC1100 connect via usb to a G4 mac?

I need to connect a Roland PNC1100 plotter to a G4 Mac which has USB rather than serial ports so I presume I'll need a USB to serial or parallel convertor. Has anyone else done this? Any tips? Also would you suggest any low cost cutting software that would work with this set up. Thanks for any help ...

Eyeletting

For a manual eyeletting machine try DTP Supplies on (01706) 522113. We bought one of them last year and they are very helpful.
They'll also hire you a machine for a month (you have to buy the die though for £50) and, if you decide to buy, they deduct the hire cost from the price.

We use it from time to time for exhibition panels, it's light and more stable than foam-core type board. You're right however it can only be bought in packs. If you want a smaller sheet to try PM me and I'll see what we have.

We had a new head last year and Roland accepted a quantity of cartridges (can't recall exactly how many) against the cost.

I seem to recall that 280 was the magic number for a new head.

Martin It's not easy to convert Quark files to other formats, you really need a copy of Quark for best results (about £700!!). Adobe Indesign claims to open Quark files (up to version 4 I think) and is a lot cheaper but conversion can be hit and miss. If your client will export them from Quark as EP...
