Forgot to mention a trick i was shown for the thicker pieces of ally

heat the bits up with a blow torch to get some heat in them....worked for me

the trick to welding ally with a mig is to use a spool on gun, been using one for years and there bob on !!! although sometimes a bit tricky to move around with..

although you can beat a nice bit of TIG welding !!!

reverse vinyl applied to clear PET its stronger than the plexi glass resist that amari have in stock (which is the resist 65), I dont think they carry the higher grades yet.
We use the 65 on our motorsport windows and its bloody tough....

those rivits are available from heyco, look em up on the net, if you want to use a foam, COX plastics do a black cored foam which is stiffer and better for using for a cheapie, good for site boards as well

the guy was using johnston window films, vehicle stuff, first it was done using a metalised film which played havoc with the sat nav, then its been redone twice since then and as you say its the silvery effect up on the top inch of the glass.....pain in the butt !!!!!!!

Any tinters out there ever had dealings with the new M3, Ive Had the rear screen done twice now and it seems like the film just wont go down at the top edge of the screen because of the printed on black dots which leaves it looking unsightly.........

You wanna know to much all at once LEDs are from LUXEON (http://www.luxeon.com),they are luxeon stars, 24v phillips drivers, cant remember but they hurt your eyes to look at (really!!) average space between each one is about 150mm (they are single lamps on an alum...

Hi rob it was childs play to fit it.....really...carefully planned out in the workshop and it went up soooo easy you wouldent believe, we started 1 ish monday afternoon and finished about 9.00 on tuesday evening....no broken tubes to worry about either. red halo lit illumination via LUXEON led emitters

I guess what narks the planning is when some fool wants to put all sorts of lit rubbish up with disreguard to designing with lighting in mind....

We have one which splits the beam into a straight line, which you can adjust the angle of, then lower or raise so you can just pick a line on a vehicle, match the beam up and hey presto

Out of interest, what size do you go up to when bonding the nylon locators to letters and have any of you actually tried an HONEST sheer and pull test on the fixings ????? I have a bit of a phobia about stuff being fixed right, especially metal letters high up which i prefer to solder brass locators...

Yea sounds like youre using the wrong blades, try to find a TRIPLE-CHIP, neg rake, as many TPI as you can and it will cut ok for you, you can also try using saw soap (grease in a cardboard tube) to help cool the cut As for the jigsaw the blades you need to use a bosch T101AO, i use these to cut virt...

I would argue the point for flex face on this if only to have no joints , a std light box with 5mm opal panels and a good panel joint will do the trick

15mm thick black foamex letters the IHOC has had a 45 deg bevel added to it to add some shape

Another interesting sign was this manufactured from 3mm copper which i tarnished (using the burners in the neon shop) then ripped and bent the panel edges using a special tool that i made.

finally it had router cut 5mm red acrylic push through letters fastened on the reverse side using welded studs

just thought id put the pic in, its a lowercase letter n from "Manchester Evening News Arena" which is situated above a train platform. Once the sign was up there was no way to get to it for maintenance so we opted for F/O illumination. The Cap height on these letters was 3000 mm, 180mm return depth...

Excellent Quality Paint i may add !!!! and they have a bloody good technical department who will probably be able to advise you better than me !!! Although i dont get my paint from them i always try to use a good quality one, it may be worth trying to get hold of a litre of PPG delfleet, a 2pc isocy...

Yea i would try a two pack clear laquer (as they paint onto cars) i know it adheres to bare ally and doesnt come off, just make sure you prep the panel using panel wipe b4 painting, failing that, what about putting the vynil to the panel then applying an acrylic or 2pk laquer....... and use a low ta...

HMM BSA reccomend a load of ( oh i swore ) sometimes as well, can you imagine employing a fully qualified electrician to go and wire up a proj sign or two a week, wouldnt be worth doing it. when i worked at DT signs in blackpool, we had a fully qualled sparky but he was busy doing all sorts of stuff...

hi chaps moulded letters, well putting it simply you take a piece of gold acrylic, heat it up, drape it between a male/female mould and close together leaving you with a raised 'drape' formed letter, then you remove the excess of on the bandsaw leaving you with a 3d letter to which you can gold leaf...

if we are talking ally plate to ally channel then i would use araldite 2021 structural adhesive,then paint the job,(it will also stand up to powdercoating) if you are using pre painted/powdercoated components then 3M VHB, the one with the red peel off cover will be ok but make sure you use heat and ...
