Happy update - cx-24 and illustrator

I got the cutter to print directly from Illustrator 10 :) Also, I was happy to find that my Roland also came with a copy of Corel 11 and the Dr. Stika Plus program, so those are to be my backups. The ReadMe file that came with the cutter listed a bunch of changes to make to print from Illustrator --...

Thanks for the replies!

It depends on the type of work

I will be cutting vinyl for stickers which I will sell at my store so I will be cutting the same designs over and over. I don't plan on taking on much custom work. I already have the designs in illustrator format.

Hello again, well the time is at hand for me to finally order a cutter. I went to a signmaker convention last month and got to see alot of machines and decided on the Roland CX-24. So I'm still stressing about software. Will I be able to print using the windows drivers? Or is it a must to buy specia...

can anyone give some advise with printers and software?

EDIT: Save time, skip down to my 2nd post in this thread. :) I'm still researching which cutter to get and one thing that I am concerned about is software. I love working with Illustrator and would like to print directly from it if I can. I noticed that the Roland 24" I was looking at comes wi...

You will learn so much here and expand well beyond what you set out to do. ;) Exactly what I'm afraid of... I just don't want to spread myself too thin right now. T-shirts have been and are expanding much more than I thought they would and now that I see the possibilities for vinyl cutting... I jus...

Just wanted to say...

You guys scare me!!

All wonderful work!

I think I better rethink my cutter purchase now, it's obvious everyone here is quite seriously into the business. With my small window decal and garment plans...perhaps I should go sit in the corner! ;)

Thank you both for your input.

I think I am convinced I should go better than the Stikas -- which I was wary about anyway.

I am in the fortunate position that the money is not my consideration so that's one of the reasons I am able to purchase rather than sub out the job.

Hmm just past Zuma? You could've been still in the Malibu area or perhaps upwards further north near Camarillo or Ventura. The whales migrate past Point Dume which is near Malibu and dolphins and seals are up and down the coast. I definitely like living here. I used to live in LA county. I grew up i...

A dongle is usually a physical device that is needed to operate a system or piece of software. It's one more step in theft prevention. Sometimes it is essentially a memory stick that plugs into a USB port containing code that the main program checks exists before it is operational. It may also be a ...

What to buy: small jobs

Yes, it's time for another "What should I buy?" question. My situation: I'm a graphic designer who sells her own line of clothing and gifts. I plan on adding car decals to the "gifts" list these would be as small as 2" x 3". I also plan on cutting thermal vinyl to apply on garments (I own a heat pre...

I'm in Southern California, close to Santa Barbara. I've been to your side of the pond once in my life so far. I visited briefly in London and went out to a few other typical tourist spots. My brother is married to a native Liverpudlian though so maybe I will come out again with them some day. You'l...

Hello from California!

Hello everyone, I'm a graphic designer selling my own line of clothing and gifts and I'm about to get into vinyl cutting to add decals to my stores. I was pointed here by some folks at a dye sub board.
