thanks for ther replies, it turned out to be the encoder strip, cleaning it didn't do anything so i turned it upside down and bingo, noticed the flat ribbon cable going to the sensor was slapping about due to ink dust build up so gave that a clean too.

sp300v reading wrong media width
where ever i put the pinch rollers its reading about 190mm less that the actual width of the media. its becoming a problem.

any ideas what i should try? is there a calibration or something i need to do?
