Hi Martin, I have come across this once when producing some internally illuminated menu faces. After some experimenting we found that using a better quality vinyl, 5-7 year, took care of the problem It was quite a few years ago and we put in down to the polycarb, economy vinyl and heat from the slim...

Hi Dave, Your best bet is to contact the BSGA (British Sign & Graphics Association) as they have an eduction link showing all the colleges that deliver apprenticeships in signmaking all over the UK. You will do an NVQ level 2 in signmaking as part of the apprenticeship. Hope this helps Mike

Peter, The VHB would be fine, even in the 25mm strips, if you clean the surface as recommended. I presume they are not going to be huge in height. There are plenty on the boards who have been recommended for light boxes before Peter, Alutrade are a good option in Birmingham. I either do my own boxes...

Hi Peter, still doing okay i hope? You can attach standard raised letters to the tray using locators, as you have done before, or you could use VHB tape if they need to be flat to the surface. The trays don't need to be Dibond, you could get aluminium machined and folded to form a tray, you could fi...

Hi Dan, The firemans switch would be required for illuminated signs which have high voltage, ie Neon etc. Standard illuminated sign boxes are fine as long as they are fused. You are probably better arrranging for a fused spur to be put in place for you to connect to. The massive illuminated signs on...

Hi Pete, You could use jumbo locators and glue them on with the right adhesive. I have done this on aluminium letters plenty of times. Put plenty of male locators on and do a paper layout for the fascia. The adhesive i use is a 2 part mix. Quantum st3295, A & B. Call Holdtite in Gateshead, 0191 ...

Hi Chris, I think it would be wise to choose the Roland or Graphtec rather than an old T1000. I used to use one years back at a company i worked for and we were always having to call a strange looking maintenance guy out to sort it (always wore wierd hats and sandals). They still have the old T1000 ...

Hi fellas,
Tensol 12 or Tensol 70 is a recommended ICI adhesive for perspex to perspex. Tensol 70 is a two pack mix and is much stronger.
Foamex to Foamex or to Foamex to Perspex can be done with Durapipe or similar.
Amari Plastics sell all three....
Hope this helps

Hopefully the point behind it is cost, with the govt subsidising the period of time that the trainee is at the college. Just means for us that we could take someone on sooner rather than later. I am also a sign tutor running the signmaking course in Hull, the course we run here has the practical tr...
