martin, do you use LG Software ? if you do ! you should upgrade to 5600 ver. there are additional settings in the xml driver files that fix most issues.

The 5600 does not like printing black on films as much as the older printers - it;s due to the new toner used - look better once fixed to plate.

Hi
simplest solution, remove adhesive protective film from plate - spray/mist with vinyl application fluid - apply film onto wet surface - squeegee out and then laminate via pressure roller. hey presto - no bubbles.

Martin cost of plates about £2.50. Time to make two about 5 minutes. Retail £10.00 each minimum. Profit approximately £15.00 before overheads etc. I have my fabricator / layer upper(?) making the signs at £5.50 / hour. We did 25 sets today. It is only possible using the right kit (Oki a must) right...

modified printers my ( oh i swore ) New 5600 is not modified at all........ it;s the modifications in the software that enable a change to printer drivers and makes the most out the new colour profiles available from the printer. You can print thru word if you like ! but it won;t be the same result ...

I have no doubt that a living can be made from number plates providing you have the sustainable volume, I also doubt that a start up business is going to get to that point for a long time. make sure you have the size of the paper in the printer settings and you send it to print on transparency...

sounds like you are sending it to print on standard settings...and it's jamming up...

Well 2 reasons: 1) Signs and stickers ~ We supply loads of car dealerships and this could be a handy "add-on". 2) Plates - We all know the issues with the requirement to print white behind colours ( due to yellow reflectives changing the colour ) and we make 100's a day...Maybe gerber can solve this...

Thanks guys i will sort some materials and do a few tests.
The plates are for "trials" bikes, they need a "legal" plate as the bikes shold not be "modified" !!! but legal plates "break" on the track. So we need something that "looks" legal but is bendy.
Advice appriciated.

Yes i'm afraid the dvla has made these illegal as they contain a honeycomb pattern. Only illegal if you supply one today !

Marty - Colours..The Tech' people at oki tell us that the colour should only start to fade after 3/4 years and a user life should be at least 6/7 for outside applications. With the method you are using , printing reverse onto poly then the uv resistance is greater as the poly acts as a laminate. Paul

Simon You can use the edge exactly as you say and is does a reasonable job. I don;t know the cost for a oblong plate with the edge but our laser does the job for c. 5p black and 10p full colour. So not bad !!! Think the point all the guys are trying to help with is that the edge is a very high quali...

Gerber 4 plates...like a mallet to crack an egg. Too expensive in my view for plates. But then again i am biased ! :). I won't advertise because i value my membership more than a extra business. I'll leave that to Rob (thanks mate).

one point with the lasers, watch for toner build up ..it will mess media up. Suggest keep blank paper sheet for every 4 prints. RUN IT thru on white image to clean rollers etc with toner build up.

We have worked fairly closely with the supplier of this system and market it ourselves. I would advise that trying to a) save a few pennies on materials or b) trying to source new media is a waste of your valuable time. Many hours of research in sourcing and testing has been put into this concept so...

ps. This machine is not good enough to produce plates anyway. As plates are white/yellow the inks do not cover yellow properly. Need a white behind the blue to stop it going green and this is not possible. Great for white one's no good for yellow.

Allan The law states that you MUST see the original documents- ie proof of ownership (V5) etc and proof of identity (photo driv lic preffered). Confuse you more, you can buy a plate for a friend - use his V5 and your I.D when purchasing.

If you are after old style font and a machine then it's possible that Mike at Europlate birmingham could help. He also has new style font for pressed plates as well.
