Its been a long time, folks. Update.

Well, she still has "britty" on her bed. She tried a few posts on the Letterheads but couldn't continue as the computer screen mitigates debilitating migraines. We finally, after 14 years, got a true diagnosis of Rosemary's problem. Its called Maxillofacial Osteonecrosis. Besides the damage to the t...

need help with double sided hanging HDU sign?

Lets assume that your customer wants a double-sided, hanging sign, either carved or sandblasted. Lets further assume it will be 4" thick, but it could be 1" or 6". We'll make this one a 3'x4' sign. Using a 1/2" round bottomed router bit, cut two channels 1/4" deep the entire...

Ok, Bob. Hope the water's not too deep! PB240 is a specific for HDU. It increases it's own volume 8 to 10 times. Hard clamping is not necessary as it does expand and allowing it to force itself into irregularities is very desirable. Bonding HDU to a wood backing also works extremely well and permane...

If you use "Crystal PC" you'll only have to polish it once and then never again. You can read about it at http://www.por15.com It's a one time application for any and all highly polished metals. My son just used it on his new "monster truck" stainless shock absorbers. Sets up hard as a rock and alum...

Gray, I get the majority of my layout, artwork and illustrating done in the first few hours with no telepone calls or walk-ins. Since we're "wholesale only", our customers know our hours and use email, fax or mail to send their job orders. Our customers are primarily architects, general co...

Eddie, we open our studio at 5:am and close at 2:pm monday through friday. It takes 45 minutes to get from the studio to Lost Prairie and we then open the Recording Studio at 3:pm. I'm usually in bed by 9:pm at the latest and up again at 4:am.

Martin, go to http://www.stmariegraphics.com and take a look. All of the carvings there are commercial carvings, or, in other words, a very large sign/carving combination.

The only paints we use now on our carvings are all water based paints. We overcoat with a one-part clear from POR15 called Pelucid. I don't know if it's available in GB, but you can go on their website at http://www.por15.com and contact a rep. Colors stay clear, bright and maintenance free for year...

Robert, I used wood for years, but now I use Precision Board. The 18 and 22 pound are as dense as wood is anyway, but it carves much better. No grain inconsistencies.

Actually, on the page with a lot of carving cameos there are a large number of them that went extremely fast and paid somewhere around $185 an hour to accomplish. Unless there's true dimensional artwork (illustrating type) involved, it's MUCH easier than you think. I'll plan a quick seminar on "...

Hi, guys/gals. This board is a very cool find for me. I was looking for another home and glad I was steered here. I didn't see a forum for carvers. Anyone here carve commercial signs or murals??

.........and boy, are my arms tired! Hi, gang. My wife and in-laws are all from Farmborough, Kent, and my wife gave me permission to join here! I'm from Lost Prairie Montana and I'm a commercial mural carver. My son, Latigo and daughter, Rosemary are carvers too, but Rosemary generally runs the grap...
