Vinyl Storage racks, views and opinions please?

My vinyl is mostly stored on horizontal racks, as pictured, but I find often that there’s an awful lot of wasted space on them due to spacing between slots,

I would also like to make a bit of space so ... I rarely buy more than 25m popular colours (610) or 20m (1220), and more often than not it’s 5-10m depending on job + a little for stock.

So... I am considering either...
remake racks as I have now but with a smaller spacing to accommodate a lot more rolls per rack..

Or, particularly in the wrap and 1220 vinyls (on the Christmas tree style horizontal stands), making a vertical rack, ie a tilted base plate (well off the floor for easier cleaning!) with angled ply back - theory being that the rolls will lay gently back on the backing and not all topple over like dominoes!! There’ll also be no wasted space as the rolls will butt up to each other. Something like this

Has anyone tried this kind of storage or is it going to be bad for the company vinyls?

Re: Vinyl racks / storage..........................

Watching with interest, as we have the same issue.

I really like the look of this system, but not the price.

Vinyl racks / storage..........................

In previous workshop I had the rolls sticking out. Looks messy and you dont see the colours.

I think like you have it - this is a space-saver.
I have it the same now.

Maybe you could of place the rolls even closer.
I know I could of done that by 20-30mm.

In my opinion this is best vinyl storage, looks good and is cheap to make.

Re: Vinyl racks / storage..........................

I think I'm going to stick with the style I have for the cut vinyl but, remake the uprights, by spacing them at 120mm centres I can fit 20 part rolls per rack. totalling 60 rolls for 3 racks, rather than currently 3.5 racks for 40 racks.

I think I need to plan the rest. working into the night to have a big change-around this evening - wll see how it goes!!

The other rolls are held up with ikea curtain brackets which can hold 4ft rolls too

Is that a pre-printed reflective chevron vinyl on the rack?
Where did you source that from?

Nice rack by the way ;)

Re: Vinyl Storage racks, views and opinions please?

We had some DIY wooden racks, but it didn't utilise the space very well.

I liked the signgeer rack, but was a little expensive. My old man suggested some twin slot rails screwed to the wall, and improvise some thing to hang the rolls off.

Better still is the flexible book ends, they slot in and the force of the steel springing out stops them dropping out.

Surprised myself. Cheap to buy, easy to install, and we can now fit 2 part rolls on any row, and have the option to move the brackets to accommodate full rolls.

Only trouble is, I don't have enough poles now! It's a great improvement on having rolls leant against the wall and domino effect!

That’s it, not posting any pictures of my unit now.
You’re all far too tidy & organised for my liking.
My lads have just been skinned for the last 10 minutes after showing them how a tidy workshop looks like. Guess what they’re doing tomorrow?
