PPL PRS back on the scene

Just a note of caution - the scammers that call themselves PRS and PPL for music have joined forces and are once again touting for business by making unsolicited calls trying to co-erce you into paying for a music license for your business.

My advice is not to answer any of their questions and ask them to remove your contact details from their list. If the calls persist, register with the TPS (telephone preference service) and make a formal complaint.

If you look up their accounts, you will see the directors skim off huge amounts of money in directors emoluments and pay the staff massive salaries to motivate them into signing up as many companies in what can only be regarded as legalised extortion.

Re: PPL PRS back on the scene

Don't even tell them you listen to Talk Radio as they claim you owe them for the little bits of music on adverts or station stings. Even if you say you listen to music on headphones they want you to cough up!

Total scammers.

Re: PPL PRS back on the scene

I was called by them on Thursday.

After saying we don't ever listen to music she proceeded to list off about 50 increasingly unlikely scenarios as to how music could be heard by staff & customers. Could a stray dog that had swallowed an i-pod wander into the workplace and the staff could listed to the music???? (joking but not far off)

I got fed up answering no, no, no, no, no .................. then hung up.

Thing was we had the office side door open onto the FedEx parking spaces outside, and the vans were pulling up with radios booming out - surprised she didn't ask where the music was coming from in the background.

I think it's best not to give them any response simply tell them not to call again and hang up. You are not obliged to answer any of their questions.

Re: PPL PRS back on the scene

What they don't tell you on the phone, is if you do listen to music, and have less than 4 employees, you only pay £95.00

We don't listen to music, and follow Phil's approach

Re: PPL PRS back on the scene

Report them to the TPS vince. They will claim it was market research and not a sales call but that is no excuse, it was an unwarranted call. The more people that report them to TPS the more pressure we can put them under. I'm secretly hoping they will call me again so I can register another complaint.

Given the site it's on it looks like something you maybe are supposed to have.

However, it looks like most of you guys, like us, prefer to work in silence.

Re: PPL PRS back on the scene

In the end event we paid for the licence, approx £200.
6 months later, a second similar type piggy backed this and cost us about a further £90.
both were working together in some form or another.
i think the year after, combined, the priced dropped a bit but still...

Re: PPL PRS back on the scene

Had them on the phone a couple of days ago.
I was less than friendly with the lass that called...not rude, just very short.

"Can I confirm you are authorised to discuss business matters"
No, you may not.
"Are you aware of PPL PR..."
YES, fully aware, no I don't listen to music, take me for your dialing list...
"You maybe liable to..." (Hung up on her at this point)

Better than my usual response to scammers and the like of just mashing the keypad so they get a load of loud phone tones in their headset....or if I have some time, proper windups that often get them shouting abuse down the phone in their first language or being left hanging while I "go and get the boss"

Re: PPL PRS back on the scene

Not had them call yet.. My hubby always says if someone calls and the conversation doesn't start with " can you give mea price " just say not interested and put the phone down as it blocks genuine customers getting through
