Creating opacity mask to outlines

Hi guys, wonder if anyone can help.

When creating opacity masks- im creating a wood effect onto text, write the text out- over lay it onto the image-create opacity mask. Too this point everything is great. But now i want to create it to outlines and for the life of me i cant figure it out. Options expand appearance which i would expect to do it are not showing as available.

Im using adobe cs4

thanks

Re: Creating opacity mask to outlines

I'd create the outlines first, then position over the top of the wood effect, and create a clipping mask.

Re: Creating opacity mask to outlines

As Jamie said - convert text to outline (vector), overlay on top of wood effect - create clipping mask.

Re: Creating opacity mask to outlines

Thanks for the response, yes i already convert to outlines, then apply the opacity mask but i just get a box from where the image was. Lokks fine as preview- text with image within it but then go to outlines and just a box.

hope this makes sense

Re: Creating opacity mask to outlines

I'd skip the opacity mask, and just use the outlined text to create a clipping mask.

Re: Creating opacity mask to outlines

The 'wood effect' image (I'm guessing its a Jpeg, Tiff etc - raster file) will be displayed as a 'box' if viewing in outlines mode, but will not be printed etc so shouldn't be an issue.

Re: Creating opacity mask to outlines

i agree, with normal objects or single letters i create a clipping mask as you suggested but with a company name etc either it just goes blank or if i ungroup the letters then i get just one letter with the mask. Its strange and ive never got round it hence why i stated using opacity mask

Re: Creating opacity mask to outlines

When you outline the text, try making a compound path from all of the letters. This should enable you to
create the mask. Just make sure that the outlined text is on the top.

Select text then up at top of menu select image drop down menu then compound path at bottom and click make, then drop the image behind letters and select all text and image them cmd 7 (if using Mac ) or make clipping mask
