Rear Projection Screen Film, advice and views please?

Hi Guys

I’m looking for a supplier and info on the clear film you can use on windows to project on to.

Any reputable links appreciated thanks.

Re: Clear window projection screen film

These guys might be able to help, not used them but had their details from when a customer had asked for a window to be done but ended up using a large TV in the end due to cost

I may be wrong but I’ve been told 3M have discontinued the vikuiti product & have introduced one called dust, looks similar to the Mactac product

Re: Clear window projection screen film

Hi Warren
I spent a bit of time and money on this around 8 years ago.
It is certainly a great idea and has so much potential, but there are a list of pros and cons...

Back then I could only locate 3 types of this film. Other than the 3M Vikuity i forget the others.
I just checked my emails but couldnt locate the old info i had on them. :awkward:

3M had the most expensive one, the other two were about a third of the price "but still expensive".
I would like to think the price of this has come down substantially as i am going back a bit.
Anyway...
The other two were from Canada or the company i purchased them from were from Canada.
One was a black film, the other just looked like glass etch vinyl.
you can plot/cut the media to whatever shape you want the screen to be projected onto.
there is also some that are like a clear acetate that doesn't actually "stick" to the window.
and the new ones ive saw here and there that are touch interactive, some with sound too. all very cleaver!

From memory, things you had to get "Just right" or you did not get the desired effect.

1, good resolution projector
2, check the distance you intend mounting the projector from the window.
e.g. if the projectors minimum screen size from 20 foot back is 4ft x 4ft and you have a bit of film on the window 3ft x 3ft your losing bits of the projection.
3, if your projector is very close and up high. its projection angle will be out. so you must be able to distort/skew the projection for it to appear properly on the outside of the window.

do not get me wrong, the principle of it is straight forward. but like everything, a bit of trial and error required. research and even a bit of advice from the suppliers.

This is another clever use of the film on a free standing clear acrylic manikin silhouette type thing with a girl projected onto it. William Smiths had this on their stand at Sign UK. So they may still have info on this type of thing...
