Wall covering options for printed graphics

Hi All,

Just got back from quoting for a beauty salon who have requested for some photographic imagery to be blown up and applied to the wall.

My first thought and obvious option is printed wall paper, for which I recommended.
She was adamant she didn't want wall paper and said she's been quoted for just the graphic part to be applied using vinyl (The image has large areas of white and I'm assuming she wants the white of the wall left exposed) TBH she's pickled my head a bit. Any suggestions or alternatives?

Have you made it clear "SELF ADHESIVE wallpaper"?

I remember once I went to install some self adhesive wallpaper and the customer said she expected me to bring a pasting table, paste, all that gear and to make a lot of mess around. I had a proper  .

From what you are saying she has either been quoted for a contour cut printed image, or as George says, a S/A wallpaper

Wall covering options for printed graphics

I ve just had a similar problem with a customer its the question of making sure you are quoting like for like , he told me he wanted printed graphics on foamex which I quoted on 5mm the other sign company where quoting on 3mm , what i would do to win the job is print a small sample of what they want on S/A Wallpaper and show her what you mean, basically your going out your way to give her a Service and this way your both singing on the both Hymn sheet so to speak
If you Ring Metamark or i use Tepede’s Gekkotex they do a very good price for a full roll there site is currently under construction but heres a video of AT Graphics of a job they did in Croatia http://tepedeedc.com/2016/01/06/gekkote ... b-croatia/

Thanks for the replies guys.

I must admit George I didn't mention the self adhesive part which may have worried her unnecessarily.

Yes Iain, I imagine she has been quoted for a contour cut printed image but what material? I know there's some great products out there but still don't think it would look as good as the whole wall finished with wall paper.

Jamie, I think that is sound advice. I will run a small sample off and take it down to her. Apart from Metamark or Tepede Gekkotex what SA wallpapers is everybody else using?

Be careful with contour cutting S/A adhesive as I had a roll of Gekkotex and id had it a year and because it was contour cut it peeled on the edges , we had to do the whole job again for L’oreal down London of the London Skyline on 3mm foamex cut to shape which actually looked better as it gave it a bit of depth

Can't help with suppliers but a lot of this job is educating the customers, She may have just heard wallpaper which is the stuff she can buy in any DIY store
Doubt if she will understand the process or how it is applied so you need to be able to explain that to her.
I used to carry a portfolio of different jobs I had done to help explain to customers plus a few different examples of substrates like foam, ACM etc which works better than just trying to tell them

Cheers Jamie, I bet you were glad when that job was over

I must admit Martin I need to put one of these together :blushing: great suggestion to avoid any confusion with the client. It's on my list of things to do
