Problems with weeding vinyl

Wonder if anyone else is having or has had a similar problem. I'm having problems weeding my vinyl. Been an issue for about a month now. No matter what pressure i set the blade to the problem is the same. The easiest way to explain it is, It's almost like the glue is bleeding back together as soon as the cut is made. I use a well known vinyl from a reputable supplier and use a smart knife. It doesn't seem to matter what colour of vinyl the result is the same. The cut is made but the glue seems to be holding the cut together, Like i said i have increased pressure as much as possible, replaced the blades etc etc. Temperature in the office is normal room temp.

Re: Problems with weeding vinyl

Last time i had issues i changed cutting strip , new blades etc n it seemed to work, but i wondered if it was reallyjust a faulty roll,

i use Oracal 651 mostly and ive had rolls of same colour with different textures etc.

if it helps, im in ayrshire, stick a piece in the post and i can run it through, would either dictate a machine problem, or a vinyl problem, and then you can get some ££ back

Re: Problems with weeding vinyl

I've had similar problems recently but I think it's just down to personal preference and weeding technique.
For instance, I'm really not a fan of Avery cutting vinyls as I find them a pain to weed. However I'm sure a lot of people love them.
Have you always used the vinyl your currently using or have you recently changed?

Re: Problems with weeding vinyl

Meant to say fairly new cutting strip as well. I've been using the same vinyl for about a year. Uses to be brilliant to weed but the last month or so it's horrendous. It's making the cut and marking the backing paper as it should but it's like the glue is holding the cut together

Which vinyl are you using?

I've had the same problem with Hexis High Tack Cad Vinyl, but that does have a really thick adhesive.

Re: Problems with weeding vinyl

Easy weeding has been my interest for many years. (as I've done lots of gallery work)

If a sheet doesn't weed easy - it goes in the bin. Simple.

I haven't found vinyl that weeds easier than Metamark. (at that price range)

Re: Problems with weeding vinyl

I've found the most crucial part of getting a good clean weed, is room and vinyl temperature. The room could be warm, but if the vinyl hasnt warmed up then it will still be a problem. If my workshop is hot and vinyl arrives from a delivery and its been in a cold van, no good. Have to wait for it to warm right up.

Re: Problems with weeding vinyl

I think Matt is correct to a point. I have trouble weeding and I find I always get the issue in the summer months, I think my unit just gets too warm. Try cutting a bit then weeding is straight after, I bet it weeds perfectly fine. If that is the case I think you need to bring down the temp in your office which I've not managed to do yet

Re: Problems with weeding vinyl

The vinyl has been in the shop for about 2 weeks at a comfortable room temp. Have also tried weeding immediately with no difference. Like I said though I've had this issue for a month or so with 551. Tried some 651 yesterday and it weeded perfectly

Re: Problems with weeding vinyl

I remember something like this around 10 years ago, posted on UKSB and i think it was during summer.
The same issue was posted and it turned out to be that vinyl left cut, but un-weeded for a long period seemed to gel itself back together.
it wasn't the face film but the actual adhesive seemed to re-tack itself if left long enough.
It may just be a temperamental batch, i doubt it is right across the brand or we would be seeing it posted all over this site by other users because 551, 651, 751C is a heavily used range/s amongst our members.
I will ask our lads if they have had any issues on this because we use 551 and 751c daily. nobody has said anything though and our workshops always between 18-24 degrees, hotter in this weather i bet.

on a side note, nothing does my head in more than seeing vinyl unweeded on the table for any length of time. get your finger out Ewan and keep up with the cutter mate!

You've got feet and toes haven't you? Double your output speed by weeding one set with your hands, whilst simultaneously weeding another set with your feet...

I always get this problem with LG and Grafitype, never had it with Image Perfect, Oracal or metamark so in my opinion it's down to make.
