Not sure on how much to quote this job!

Hi Guys,

I have this client who wants this simple line in their truck, but am not sure how much to quote them. What sort of vinyl and price would you guys recommend?

Both sides included works out around 11m width by 10cm height.

Thank You

It's a Chapter8 requirement, you will need 2 inch wide Conspicuity Reflective tape for that.

You can source it in various brands like Avery, Oracal, 3M...

Re: Not sure on how much to quote this job!

Not chapter 8 Rob but ECE 104 which applies to all heavy goods vehicles over 7.5 tonnes and trailers over 3.5 tonne vehicles registered from July 2011.

All must have retro-reflective conspicuity markings that clearly outline the rear and sides of the vehicle to increase its visibility.

Regulation ECE 104 also specifies the standard for the retro-reflective materials used, it must carry the compulsory E-mark and meet all the requirements of Regulation ECE 104.

Yes thats it Gill you go all technical on me now knowing fine well how bad I am with even vinyl series codes etc.
I am just getting used Chapter8 regulations... so for me ill keep it as a chapter8 regulation!

I still call a Roll-up banner stand, a pop-up stand, call every composite sheet, DiBond. all alloy Trims, Panatrim and any acrylic, Perspex!

Thanks everyone for your comments.

Jean I was just going to ask that question now. What sort of vinyl do I use for the back for yellow and red? fluorescence and Luminescent? Luminescent is ridiculously expensive costing £37.40 per metre. And red Fluorescent ?

Thanks Everyone

Re: Not sure on how much to quote this job!

Same thing I was talking about before Mohammad. "Chapter8 Regulations"

Yes the film is expensive, they all are in this class. Just adjust your costs accordingly, it is the same for everyone and your customer will have to pay for this legal requirement.

ORACAL Reflexite VC612 Flexibright
ORACAL Fluorescent Premium Cast Yellow 7510

Unlike others, this material does not require edge sealing.

Alternatively you can buy this stuff by the roll, part roll, at the width you require.
will still need cut and laid at the correct angle, strip by strip. Simple enough to do though. but dependant on the material/brand you use, you may have to seal the edge where it has been cut.
I am not a fan of this, but you can seal with an edge seal pen or a strip of clear vinyl.

Re: Not sure on how much to quote this job!

Thank You very much Robert for your detailed reply. I usually buy my things from MDP and they only have KPMF Luminescent which I think should be same quality as ORACOL. Yeah to be honest am not a big fan of this either, Its really irritating doing them. Thanks all for your comments

Re: Not sure on how much to quote this job!

Mohammad your getting your vinyls mixed up, for chapter 8 you are looking for a Fluorescent vinyl NOT a Luminescent :smiles:
MDP do a cast Fluorescent vinyl but only at 610mm wide which may or may not be wide enough for your application.

Other thing to make your customer aware of is that these vinyls have a shorter life span than a regular vinyl, think the longest you will get with a Fluorescent is 2 years.

The red is a reflective material & what grade you use will depend on where the vehicle is expected to work, there are different grades stated in chapter 8 which depend on if the vehicle is doing Roadway or highway work :smiles:
