Self Adhesive Felt for Squeegee Applicators, source please?

Good morning all.
Quick question, can anyone recommend a supplier of decent self adhesive felt for squeegee edges ?
I go through them like no tomorrow, but the plastic squeegee is still in good shape and I begrudge throwing away serviceable tools.
Have done the normal route of eBay etc but most of it is cheap and flimsy, one job and its hammered.
Grateful for any info

Yeah have done all sorts Derek including Velcro. It's ok but not soft enough for delicate applications and vehicle vinyl.

We get ours from Sign & Digital, when the cruiser calls round, but we're probably paying more than we should for that privilege.

Not sure if any of you do this but I recycle the felt once it's split down the middle. They last twice as long and save me a fortune

Re: S/A Felt for Applicators

I started making my own because the bought ones either split in the middle or the ends of them didn't cover the plastic very well, did that for years & they always seemed to last a lot longer than any brand I bought, tried lots of different brands including some of the expensive ones

I generally used a strip of velvet & a decent thin double sided tape, think the first ones I made I used an old fishing rod bag I had laying about but latter used an old dress that I picked up in a charity shop for about 20p. Well I did say it was a while ago

Red s/a felt from hexis is my choice, nice and soft so no scratching of the film, comes in sheets, just cut down to the size you want, pull it off and replace when worn and no wear to the squeegee.cheap too.

Re: Self Adhesive Felt for Squeegee Applicators, source please?

I've got the ones from sign and digital and I think they're great, I've also used the monkey strips and they felt the same although a different colour, I know there's a uk supplier that has just been given the go ahead to officially sell these but for the moment go to sign and digital. Although these are great I personally think the avery blues are perfect for your standard vehicle graphics and the felt strips for wrapping, well that's what I think

I agree the blue Avery are good all rounders mate, but they have changed that felt edge on the blue ones three times in as many years and still haven't got it right. I am a keen Avery squeegee user for general sign work and wrapping, currently have 3 types always in my box, however my favourite one at the moment for general sign work has moved to the Grey Oracal Squeegee with White felt edge. lasts 10 times as long as the Avery blue, though admittedly i prefer the blue nylon side a bit more than the oracal grey. the oracal ones are defo worth a go!

Re: Self Adhesive Felt for Squeegee Applicators, source please?

I would imagine either Europoint or Spandex will have them as both these companies are the only two "official" suppliers of Oracal media in the UK.

How are you finding them them so far Rich?
Initially the felt will feel a little thick in comparison to general squeegees but they feel fine after a short use of your first one. The thicker felt also accommodates multi-layer vinyl application better and prevents the typical ring of tiny bubbles that can often be left around the perimeter of "double+ layers" of vinyl graphics if using a nylon squeegee or thin felt.
NOT saying this happens with the Avery nylon ones, but often does/can if they are quickly worn out which is the downside of the Avery felt squeegees and others for "general sign" use within workshops.

The 3M gold squeegee has to be the best nylon all round squeegee and adding felt to one side of these squeegees does help create same. but the nylon blade itself is pretty sharp so you quickly end up cutting through the felt due to the nylon blade.
if you are buying separate adhesive felt strips on a regular squeegee i would advise blunting one side of the squeegee before wrapping in felt as it slows down the wearing process on its sharp edge.

Ok after few days I have to say I really like these, I like the amount of flex and they feel a little smaller or more comfortable to use, as Rob said they start off a little thick and can be an issue when putting vinyl into door shuts as most these days are very tight, overall a great squeegee

Great to have your feedback on these Rich, totally agree.
for me I have various squeegees for certain types of wrap application or specialist type needs, but these Oracal ones are a great all rounder for a signmaker and our staff like them too. last much longer...

well other than the white felt gets dirty looking very fast. :)
