Anyone know anything about PAT testing? Advice needed?

I'm diversify ing into making acrylic lighting products; lamps, etc. to sell online as no one seems to want to pay a decent price for a sign anymore. I've discovered that I can't sell these until they are tested: is this something I can do myself or do I have to pay someone for every single lamp I make?

Your advice needed please.
PS. I have been wiring up and installing light boxes, neon and built up letters for at least 25 years so I'm no novice to electrics.

Cheers

I think it's CE marking that you would require - not PAT testing. Unfortunately this is much more complex than a simple PAT test.

Just find a local qualified electrician to give you a certificate for each one.

Re: Anyone know anything about PAT testing?

Phill is correct. You will be selling a product so it needs to be CE marked. You can self certify, but its a lot of work making sure you know which EN standards the devices should conform to and making sure that they do conform and writing your Technical File to be able to prove it to the powers that be should the need arise. If you are making a lot of identical items you can pay someone like TUV to test an example, and then you just need a quality system to be able to prove you make them all the same. Simples!

Re: Anyone know anything about PAT testing? Advice needed?

I just ran across this thread and started looking at what is required for ce marking. It put my mind in an endless loop, starting with....I should have gone to law school so I could understand the 100 page blue guide with all it's references to annexes and specific chapters, subtitles and legislative bill numbers ect. But if I had gone through law school I wouldn't need to be reading about ce marking to begin with.....that is unless a client asked me to. Whooo glad I'm just a sign maker. But I need to understand these regulations....wish I was a lawyer....hmmmm Am I ok or do I need help?

A qualified electrician has to come and check and verify your hand tools , like your drillers etc. to make sure they are safe to use. There's a company called synergy waste and other's who perform these checks and certify your tools for you.
