Hello from East Sussex

Just to say HELLO!!

I joined the signboard in 2003 and dabbled in doing signs as a sideline, lived in manchester then, went on a training day with a bloke from these boards, cant remember his name, but he was in magazines and allsorts for his work, think he lived oxford way. Work brought me down south and last year i went self employed and me and a mate set up a computer/web office.
I was staggered by the cost of signs, so bought a cheap cutter off ebay to make 'um myself.

All the businesses in the same units have asked for them and it's turned into a nice bit of business. So i thought i should get back to the boards, lot to learn if i'm going to do them seriously.

Here's a sign we've just done for a client. Had a nightmare doing the sign, was meant to be on foamboard but the foamboard didn't turn up on time, so a mate in his works had a some plastic he mounted on ply for us... bubbles everywhere, hence the reason the arrow looks a bit short! had a day to lay it up, which was probably ample time for someone experienced, i had just suck the last bit on as they walked in at 5.30 to collect it... she seemed happy... phew

Cheers

Phil

welcome back to the boards Phil, good to have you here mate and thank you for taking the time to load your profile picture.

constructive criticism,
work on your vinyl application technique mate, you should be looking at laying up those graphics in about ten minutes. i say that purely to give you an idea of where you want to be time wise. this doesnt mean you charge less because of how quick you can lay it up. it just increases your profit margin.

Thanks guys.

10mins... blimey, usually takes me 10mins to find my tape measure... Good to have a yard stick at what i should be aiming at, probably didn't help that i had to recut the green twice coz of messing up putting it down. In my head it was going to take an hour. Think my downfall was cleaning the polypropylene first with white spirit, been reading up about prepping properly, gonna persevere with dry fitting too.

Still life's about leaning lessons. I guess some of it's down to confidence too.

Thanks for the heads up tho. We like constructive criticism.

Cheers

Phil :)

Welcome to the forum Phil, personally I think most things in life are about confidence & I don't think this is any different. Be confident but not over confident :lol1: :lol1: :lol1:
