Facing trays in vinyl

I need to face 3 trays in a digi print.
My options are:
Rout the grooves then mount the print then fold the tray up.
OR
Mount the print, then rout the grooves and fold.

I intend to mount the prints on the Easytaper and feel that the first option is a safer bet.
Anything I should be aware of?

I can't offer any advice based on experience but if it was me doing this for the first time I'd be tempted to go with the second option Peter

I would mount the prints then cover them with with application paper to protect them while you rout the backs

I'm just imagining potential pitfalls with floppy ends through the easytaper

i normally mount through the taper then rout & fold just be sure the bench is clear of swarf as you move the tray around

I use your first option although i apply my prints using a homemade "big sqeegee" It works perfect that way with no downsides whatsoever! but i no nothing about the easytaper so cant say how it will cope with the routed dibond!

Id just be far to worried about scratching the print if i done it any other way!

Ok, one for the pot !!

Make up your trays complete then face with your digital print.
We buy trays in (not a huge amount) and do this way.

Wont go thro your laminator tho !

We have done literally hundreds of these and each and every one has been done like John does his. We don't just apply to the face though we wrap our print around the edges.

We buy our trays in too so we have no other option though.

I apply to the face if its a print on a white background on a white tray, would be tempted to wrap around the sides for a print that doesnt blend to the face only.

But either apply the print last

I always apply the print or vinyl last. Absolutely no risk of marking the face after the fabricating, then again I have to do it all by hand if it's over 800mm wide.
Wrapping over the edges after forming means there's no risk of the vinyl failing on the outside of the fold.

I'll make up the trays first then apply the print by hand and wrap around the edges.

No issues with the floppy bits going through the easy taper, we do them like this if printed or colour coated - done loads like this and all have been fine, wrapping round the edges afterwards is ok if you have to, but basically an unnecessary step for you
