I haven't been out there since I was 16 (which was about 31 years ago) and even then the traffic was really daunting.
But I imagine if you can drive in London, you can handle LA, just stay on the correct side of the road.
Have fun!
Love.....Jill

Been to Los Angeles twice, travelled the length of California started in San Francisco and travelled down to San Diego. Its not like a holiday in Spain you won't be out drinking late at night. That part of America don't seem to do pubs or bars or entertainment, Places are food orientated so once you've had your meal and a couple of drinks its time to go home as theres nothing else to do at night. Santa Monica is the most touristy part with a shopping mall and a street with restaurants. Visit Venice beach, and of course Hollywood, Griffith Park has the observatory with fantastic views of the whole city. You do really need a car to get out and about and visit other places. Most of the chain restaurants are Ok Dennys etc, most of the food is fast food so not many small restaurants. Everything seems to be covered in breadcrumbs like KFC. There don't seem to be any all you can eat places like Florida either.

That's because it's California, where almost every woman is a size 0.
And lots of people are vegetarians.
Florida is in the South, where retirees like to retire to, and they love buffets.

Yes Jill I noticed some of those girls. California and Florida are like two different countrys.

You could check out "The Standard" http://www.standardhotels.com/ It's suppose to be some type of landmark. I've been to the downtown LA one.

There's also Little Tokyo neighborhood which is pretty quirky and cool. I'd say you should definitely try some Mexican restaurants while there. The places that have the guacamole made to order are the best IMO. You can try El Compadres on Sunset Blvd. or these:

or

(this on has flaming margaritas)

I have some friends that lived in LA for a long time. They just moved to San Francisco though. I can ask them specifics if you're looking for something in particular.
