The rain in Spain mainly falls on the plain.

P.S. Jill, our first trip to Pittsburgh a few months ago was fun. I liked it. Fascinated by the Pittsburgh Pots http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pittsburgh_toilet. We also ate at Primanti's one day. I'll have to see if you're in town next time we come up that way.

Simon, you and you gang can stop up anytime. I am about 20 miles north of the Burgh.
Primanti's is great. My fave is the capicola.
The original in the Strip is the best, but there are two out by the airport and one near me.
I keep trying to get the MP3 of Western PA girls for you from WDVE but I have no way to post it.

That's it!
I wanted to post it the other day when Karl said I was scaring him.
(I once put a 6' tall girl in the hospital for picking on my brother)
hahaha
My fave is the line about the woman feeding hot wings to her newborn.

This is the motto of some of the girls at the wedding went in Pittsburgh.

"If we can't be mean, we can't be friends."

Did yins do the Hokey Pokey and the Chicken Dance?
:D
More importantly, did they serve pierogies and Iron City?

Pittsburgh weddings are the best, especially when the receptions are held at the local volunteer fire hall.
:D
OK back to our regularly scheduled programming and have a great vacay, Kevin.
I am off to Reading PA this weekend for the 101 forum meet-n-greet. Never drove almost 300 miles alone but I think I can do it.
Plan to stop in Gettysburg on the way back home.

Here you go, George:
http://www.originaloysterhousepittsburgh.com/
http://www.primantibrothers.com/
John, just avoid the Burgh (meaning Pittsburgh) next month on September 24th and 25th, that's when the G20 comes to town and traffic will be a nightmare.
And remember that the Harley dealer in Gettysburg is closed on Sundays.
Try staying here:
http://www.innatherrridge.com/
It's reputedly haunted but also a very nice B&B, stayed there quite a few times. One of the ladies who works here, Debi, is married to my friend who is a sign guy in Gettysburg, named Gene.
Never stayed here:
http://www.farnsworthhouseinn.com/
Supposedly more haunted and always booked up.
And if they are still offering midnight tours here:
http://hauntedfieldsofglory.com/gallery ... index.html
Take one.
(sorry about the music)
There really is so much to see, and it is such a special place (tourists aside) http://www.nps.gov/gett/planyourvisit/index.htm
It's about as far from the Flight 93 memorial as I am.
Love.....Jill

Thanks for that info Jill. Most useful.

Unfortunately we can't take up your recommendation for the b&b as we already have a booking in the Travelodge for the 12th/13th September. I made that out of desperation, after googling until my eyes hurt, and finding that place after place was fully booked for the dates we wanted.

Normally I don't bother with booking accommodation at all, just look for someplace to stay wherever we happen to be at, but we have to give an address for the first night to your immigration folks.

We'll make the visitor centre our first stop, plan our visit, and see if the midnight tours are running.

The Oyster House looks good as well. Being partial to that particular mollusc, we might just pay a visit.

Fortunately we will be well out of the way of the G20 (good tip) as we will be in transit somewhere between Memphis and Washington whilst that is in progress.

Thanks again.

Hey John! The Oyster House is in Pittsburgh.
So is Primanti's. I just put them up to tweak George.

Gettysburg's biggest season is the first week of July, which is the anniversary of the battle. But it has a lengthy tourist season which runs into late Fall. You always have to book in advance when you go there. It can be quite difficult to get a room!

http://americancivilwar.com/getty.html

I'd avoid:
http://www.generalpickettsbuffets.com/
Because I know you like finer dining.
:)

My favorite place to see is Devil's Den.
http://www.nps.gov/archive/gett/getttou ... td2-11.htm
Make sure to notice the Triangular Field on the road just past it, on the left. All you see is a small gate into a big field. But it's supposedly the most haunted place on the battlefield.
And look for the brick barn with the cannonball hole at Trostle's.
http://www.brotherswar.com/Gettysburg-2h.htm

OK enough tour guiding.
As you can tell, it's a favorite spot, been going there most of my life.

Ok so my trip home from Reading was more like something out of The Twilight Zone. I ended up NOT staying because of all the horror stories about the motel (see pic my friend took) Yes those are bloodstains on the sheets.

It was a great meet, lots of nice people who are all sign makers of some sort. We were all deeply saddened by the sudden death of one of our friends just one day after the meet. He was just 32 and leaves behind a girlfriend and two young kids.

But because I missed out on my trip to Gettysburg on the way home, I decided to go to next month. Rachael will go with me. We got the only room left at http://www.cashtowninn.com/ (still waiting for confirmation and it is supposedly the most "haunted" room. We will be there September 18th and 19th. Looking forward to getting away.

Such a classy joint. I don't know why you wouldn't want to stay in that place?

Sorry to hear about your friend. 32 is so young.

I didn't stay! Can you believe that place is called "America's Best"?
We all called it "America's Worst"
They still charged my card a $40 cancellation fee too.
Here are a few pix from the meet.
This was NOT in Pittsburgh!

I did see the the Oyster House is in Pittsburgh Jill, but it's only a couple of hundred miles, and you might be surprised how far I'd ride for a decent oyster.

I can see why you like Gettysburg. I'm impressed.

Well darn it you could ride 20 more miles north and come to see me!
:(
I would have taken you and Jenny out to dinner for a change, to a place that has excellent crab cakes.
Getting ready for mine and Rachael's trip next weekend, and of course the work is piling in!
Glad you are liking Gettysburg. Hope it's not too crowded.

That'll do me. They're talking of mid to high eighties in Gettysburg today. Time for JC to vacate the premises.

Jenny won't be so keen on 59 though, so we'll keep that our little secret shall we? :D

Many thanks to Jill and family for the warm welcome and hospitality.

For those of you who have been waiting with bated breath, yes, the crabcakes did live up to the billing.

Thanks again Jill

Glad you arrived safely to wherever you are and did not get lost in Evans City or Zelienople. Hopefully you avoided Ohio!
Just off to the bus stop.

Not exactly.

As you suggested, we went down Beaver Valley. How could I NOT go to somewhere called Beaver Valley. :D

Then we followed the Ohio River down to Huntington WV. Now a nice easy couple of days to Nashville and the Grand Ole Opry tomorrow night.

I'm enjoying this. If anyone speaks to Mr. Mindham please ask him to carry on working and keep sending the cheques. :D

He has booked in a huge tour bus vehicle wrap and also a neon job, several street signs, and a meeting with a church committee the day you get back.

Ha Ha, yeah that awesome! Thanks. I'll have to send this to my burgh buddies. Although they probably have heard it before.

.... sammich at Primanti's. LOL

They did a Man vs. Food episode (Travel Channel) a few weeks ago in Pittsburgh. My wife loves that show. Here's a link. He goes to a few places in Pittsburgh. One of them is Primanti's.

There's a link to it right on the youtube video.
I did see it when it was on TV too, now I am hungry for Primanti's.
Glad you liked it, I immediately thought of you when my niece emailed it to me.
Also glad Lynn doesn't mind my accent because even I hate it.
