can anyone advise me with making large signboards?

Hi All,

I've been reading posts on this forum for a while now but this is my first one!

I bought a Roland Vinyl cutter a while ago because I do polished (or marble) plastering and I emboss images into walls using vinyl 'stencils'.

I'm getting on fine doing this but I now want to make myself some fairly large job boards and I'm having problems...

The boards are 1m x 1m and I want to completely cover them with a white backing and then put my lettering over the top. The trouble is I'm using vinyl which is 61cm wide so I'll need to use two pieces. Can anyone give me tips on how best to apply the white so that I have a good join? Or should I just buy a white board :-)

Thanks

Alex :D

Hi Alex,
Would it not be easier for you to buy in some white on a 1220mm roll? you could do it in one go then.

hi there,

you can either mask the sheets of 610 vinyl and overlap a few mm but, the overlap will appear whiter than the rest of the panels, depending on the colour of the board, or, preferably, buy some white composite panel, this usually has a gloss and a matt side and is ready to apply too.

Thanks for the advice. I think buying boards would be the best result - do you have any preferred suppliers?

there's a number of suppliers, I tend to use europoint on the whole but, I've previously used amari and others.

download the uksb toolbar (i think you have access to it), it'll make it easy to find suppliers.

Europoint have just amalgamated with Robert Horne for distribution, but seem to be out of stock for most things, I am seriously considering buying elsewhere, I appreciate the change would have teething problems,
but they still haven't sorted things, even the website!

Hi all
was speaking with Darren the Europoint rep today basically it seems the problem as been that when the systems where swapped no sales history was transferred so the new system didn't order stock as it believed the product was not selling. Not an acceptable excuse i know but at least there is a reason. Myself i have had nothing but trouble with deliveries of board coming in damaged, 3 sheets delivered today & 3 sheets damaged. A few weeks ago ordered 1 sheet which came in damaged, 1st replacement also damaged, 3rd replacement sheet damaged, ordered from Madreperla in the end.

Don't think so Dave.

My understanding (might be wrong) is that, although it comes out of the same warehouse on the same truck, you still need to order from the appropriate company.

I don't understand why anybody would want to order Oracal anyway. Horrible stuff.
