Bad start to the day

Well, not a great start to the day ........... just stabbed myself with a new scalpel and there's blood all over my jeans, the carpet, in the bin (picked that up to catch the blood as I shouted for help!) and my finger is throbbing. On my 3rd dressing as the blood is soaking through.

.............. just looking for sympathy ....... :(

Ouch,

I do that once every couple of weeks Marcella, you can't believe the blood that comes from such a small cut,

I'd take the rest of the day off,

wish I could! But got a pile of work to do today.

Anyway - got to go change my dressing again ............ think I've lost about 3 pints of blood by now! (OK slight exaggeration I know! :lol1: )
But I'm really proud of myself ........... I didn't faint! :D That usually happens if I hurt myself bad.

trying not to think of scalpels  today

i try not to use open scalpels in the workshop at all kept putting them in my pocket

hope it was a clean new one , not the one in your toolbox that you keep meaning to change you know the one with rust on it

oh dear! i slashed my finger with a fillet knife when doing a few trout the other night, didn't bleed for a few minutes so i figured i was lucky, then it started, would is stop? with 2 fish to prep i put on a latex glove and by the time i finished i reckon there must've been 5-10ml of blood in the glove, talk about sting!

so yes, you have my total sympathy!

You have my sympathy too Marcella ... and I'm with Martin ... masking tape does a great job of stemming the flow for the first few hours.

Dunno how much blood you lost, but my wife had an op last wed, and something went wrong. Initially they told us she lost about two litres ... then later told us she'd lost half her blood. :o

Apparently now, they dont do transfusions unless it's absolutely necessary ... so she just has to tough it out. Going to take a couple months to get back to normal.

I feel for ya Marcella.... I stabbed myself in my armpit a few years ago (long story  ).... Don't know what hurt most... my wife laughing at the idea of me stabbing my armpit, my dad telling me I was an idiot, or the pain from the wound, not to mention the blood on my shirt.... and it was my first job of the day.

My heart goes out to ya.....

..... oh yeah... don't put under arm deodorant on the cut either Marcella, you'll know the true meaning of pain then I promise you...

Marcella, so I can blame you for chopping my thumb up today, in sympathy for your pain. I was trimming a poster using a safety ruler but cut along the wrong side of it and my blade wandered along a previous cut in my cutting mat and ran over the edge of the rule and sliced my thumb. That is a very rare thing for me to do as I am very aware usually when cutting things.

Anyway ....... I did myself another injury today. Was making carrot and coriander soup, put the hot soup into a food processor to liquidise it and it came flying out of the top and all over me, the worktop, the floor ...... the dog just jumped back and stared at me then when it was cool enough went over and had a taste! :-? Meanwhile I was picking scorching chunks of carrot off my face and hair!

OK .............. another bad start ............... I think I ought to wrap myself in cotton wool and place myself somewhere safe until it's time to come out again.
I fell off the step whilst locking the door this morning, slow motion fall onto my knees on the path.................. blood all over the place, tights torn, sore hands and a very very red face! So I'm sitting with a lovely big bandage round my knee that my mum put on and the smell of germolene wafting from it!!!!! :lol1:  :lol1:

Thats unfortunately true mate. The bottle I'm drinking was a gift to my wife from an italian employee, for her helping him with his wph&s issues

edit: I thought he purchased it oversees but I may have got that wrong. He may have got it duty free at our airport .

Sorry to resurrect this post but suddenly I feel a wave of empathy for Marcella and her original plight. (What has brought about this change in heart you ask?)

This morning I just sliced the end of my finger off with a scalpel. Blood gushed everywhere (seemed like nothing would ever stem the flow) and Alison almost fainted on seeing the tip of my finger lying on the workbench :-?

All your sympathy gratefully received :baby: :baby:

as i said, thought this was an old thread i had added too... dug it up and this is a copy of my post back then. yes, i am a prize numpty!!!

my daft stuff seems to be at work and normally when i am trying to rush things...

a few years back, using a power drill i put a 5mm drill bit right into the middle, in one side of the side of my finger and clean out the other side. it went right the way through till my finger hit the chuck grips. looking down in horror the only thing i could do was put the drill in reverse and slowly pull my finger away from the unwinding drill bit.
it wasnt sore at this point, just very warm, almost numb but the feeling of the bone rubbing the knurles of the drill bit was memorable to say the least... anyway... once off i was rushed to hospital. i recon about 2 minutes after the accident happened i then began to feel real pain... almost vomited due to it... by time i got to hospital they loaded me with morphene and injections to numb my hand while they went to work on it...

this is the drill that went through my finger... never got a picture of finger due to being rushed to hospital :lol1:
Image

then there was the time i was in a rush while working with LED's...
cutting the LED strips i managed to snip the end of my index finger.
very stupid i know... :-?

Image

then just a couple of weeks ago i stuck a swan morton scalpel deep into my backside whilst (again rushing) to finish my assessment on the grafityp wrap course. :lol1:

Image

to some it up, yeh... i can be a prize muppet without even trying. :lol1: :lol1:
