Our Xmas in Tassie

Thought I would share our activity over the holidays with you.
Our aim was to scale the peak of Cradle Mountain, which lies in the Cradle Mt. National Park, Tasmania.
The last time I managed this was 23 years ago before our first ankle-biter was born.
I wondered if this old body still had the bottle to tackle the climb.
Here is a piccie of mountian.
The walk starts at the point of view - the end of the lake, then proceeds up to Marions Lookout (on the right), then across to the base of the mountain before scaling up to the peak.
This photo was taken on out last trip there.

This proves we made it, even the kids. It was a seven hours walk there and back, we were all cream crackered at the end!

We even had a bit of a white Xmas! yes, we found a few large areas of snow on the mountain! and this is summer in Australia!!

Home after for a pint of guinness!!

Both stunning and inspiring!...a real 'frontier family' eh!

Though we all love 'home' - I'm willing to bet there are a few more like me who think that this looks like a great place to be!

thanks for sharing that Gray...brill!

more soon

beautiful scenery mate... great pictures...
i love this kind of thing every once and a while.. i somtimes go up the mountains in stirling with my mountain bike. now thats not as bad as it sounds but i do need to carry it somtimes and thats a killer! (or as mike would slagg saying its "MURDUR"" )
welll i don't go right to the top but high enough to see the tops of some bungalows  ...
then i get a wee rest and lay back for a bit... enjoy the veiws.. chimney pots and smogg i mean
then back on the bum cutting saddle and peddle like the clappers to the bottom of the mountain.... daft as it sounds i do love doing it... even the 4000 flies i swollow on the way down dont put me off... it is good fun and theres always that little bit of sadness that wells up in your gut as you approach the bottom... just after you realise you forgot to check your brakes. :o :o :o :o

thanks for sharing mate... brill pictures

That looks like it'd be great fun Grey. I've gotta say the kids don't look too thrilled though...What no Nintendo? A great post.

Great picture Gray, did you have to bribe the kids or do they enjoy this sort of thing?
I know what sort of response I would get from my kids if I suggested a bit of hill walking on boxing day.
