Vehicle wrapping

Vehicle wrapping is the term used to describe the process in which a vehicle is completely covered in a layer of vinyl. Originaly developed in Germany as a cost effective means of allowing cars of all colours to be finished in yellow to be used as taxi Cabs. Once the car had served its time as a Taxi Cab - the yellow vinyl wrap material could be removed again to reveal the original pristine paintwork. Speciality films were developed that claimed to allow easy application over compound curves as well as easy allowing removal (leaving little or no glue residue.)

From this starting point the idea of wrapping a vehicle with a digitally printed design was developed. In most cases a design is digitally printed onto white vinyl using a large format digital printer. The resultant print is then usually laminated with a clear vinyl to provide abrasion protection of the print.

Nowadays vehicle wrapping is used not only to change the colour of a vehicle - but also in most cases to provide a state of the art eyecatching mobile advertisement.
