i have used them for a customers leaflet run, they wanted full colour both sides and normally would be big bucks, but printing.com was quite reasonable.

In the end to save extra dosh, i just did the artwork for them and they took the disc to the shop, city centre manchester i think, for a couple of quid extra they do a hand holding service for those not in the know about printing to make sure everthing ends up as it should.

Look at the franchise opportunity out of curiosity myself, not seriously able to afford it, but sure it would be a worthwhile venue for anyone that could.

I went to my first franchise exhibition at the weekend, National Franchise Exhibition at the NEC. There were lots of sign based franchises on offer. I was looking for more towards promotional products etc but I could be tempted. Is anyone on this board already a franchisee or have experience of same?

I was told about one of the major sign franchises at the show that only 3rd up franchisees made the business work i.e. first franchisee in a business sets it up but doesn’t get through the problems and sells it to the 2nd franchisee who corrects some of the issues but still fails and then sells it to No3 who reaps the benefits from the previous 2 and makes a going concern. Sounds a bit harsh. What do people think?

My expectation from a franchise is to provide a framework for quicker startup of a business. I’m currently employed and paying a huge mortgage. I want to run my own business but worry about surviving as the business gets a foothold. Is this a reasonable expectation or am I being naive?

We have used them for business stationary and they did a good job at a great price, a lot lower than other litho printers we’re quoting us. They offer a lot of package deals and offer good prices based on high volume turnover. From memory I think we paid £300 for 1000 letterheads & comp slips plus 1000 double sided busines cards. Would use them again..

See if you can find someone at the franchises that are up and running who’ll be prepared to talk to you about their experiences and give you as much information as possible. If you get to talk to several owner/operators who give positive feedback then it would certainly seem a worthwhile venture.
There are many franchises out there, for example, Chip and Dent repairs and Valeters, who promise so many leads etc but only ever seem to make money for the person at the top of the chain.
Do your research carefully and you should be ok.

Good Idea in theory Paul but in practice people wont be honest with you, some of the franchises tell you not to give negative feedback to people and the owners are afraid of loosing the franchisors support so will only praise the franchise no matter how things are going.
Put yourself in the position of a franchisee who is not doing very well and maybe looking to sell, is he going to be honest or is he going to talk up the business in the hope that you may be the potential buyer or calling on their behalf.
