What a paint in the a.r.s.e.

Does anyone else share my hatred for this items. Local greasy spoon wants to list a thousand dishes and two thousand variations of breakfast.

Just been asked to produce some artwork for a guy who isn't sure on what he is after. Wants a few sample layouts so he can then refine. No chance

Just interested in finding out how everyone else deals with these signs, do you use a basic template and stick to a general layout for each one you do or like me do you create different artwork for each which takes ages each time?

I know what you mean! I'm in the process of writing War and Peace onto a menu for a local cafe. I tend to stick to a well formatted list with some nice bold headings to separate sections and break up the mass of text a bit.

menus actually are big business for us in the west country. either the wall kind of the paper kind

by the time the customer has had a go and given up it, they accept paying well to have them set out.

Chalk menu boards are the easiest for this sort of thing I think - a decorative top & border with a clear seal on it, with the middle that can be very easily modified, easy to lay out & change as the mood strikes them, that is if it's the type of place that will go for it. Can look casual or elegant, depending. They're becoming very popular here now.
