Is it possible to print onto a vinyl with an epson 1290 printer?
Any hints or tips with regards to the epson 1290 and what all its uses are please share.

I recently purchased one and have been very impressed with the quality of printing from it.

David, its not really a simple yes or no question, there are lots of things you have to consider. The 1290 is an inkjet printer and there are inkjet receptive vinyls on the market so yes it will print onto vinyl.
But why do you want to print to vinyl? If its for outdoor use then the prints will not last as the inks the printer uses are dye based and are not UV stable nor are they waterproof. You could laminate them with either a UV laminating film or a liquid laminate, this would increase their UV stability and give them a degree of waterproofing but they will still fade realitivly quickly and you would probably not get much more than a few months at best.
If its for indoor use it would be cheaper to print onto a self adhesive paper and then laminate.

If you print onto coated vinyl and then overlaminte with clear vinyl what happens is the coated vinyl acts as a sponge and will soak moister in from around the edges and will eventually get in between the two layers. Brian
